With the right gear and some basic skills, you can walk on top of the snow without sinking or sliding — on the snowy trails and mountains around Tromsø, many of them right next to our rental depot on Kvaløya, the local paradise for winter sports. We give you the right snowshoes for your size and experience, plus helpful tips and guidance, so you have everything you need for a safe and enjoyable snowshoeing adventure.

How to use snowshoes
The snowshoes fit in the back of any car, and the telescopic poles adjust in seconds.
The right size. Choose snowshoes that fit your weight and the terrain you will explore — snowshoes come in different sizes and designs, and we help you pick the right set. Wear warm clothing and good winter boots, and bring a backpack with water and snacks.
Mindful use. Be mindful of your surroundings: avoid sensitive vegetation and wildlife, and follow any posted rules. Unsure about the rules for an area? We are happy to advise you when you pick up the snowshoes at our depot.
After use. Clean and store your snowshoes properly so they stay in good condition: knock the snow and ice off the shoes and poles, and don’t store them in direct sunlight or in damp places, which can damage the material.
Poles. Poles give extra balance and support on steep or uneven terrain, and make it easier for beginners to keep their balance. They are not always necessary — but helpful when you plan to tackle steep slopes.
